Club 2000 and the new touch screen

The Club has just upgraded the Club2000 system to incorporate a touch screen input panel, which is located in the hallway, where the Captain's photographs were previously hung. This system eliminates the need to use the old touch pad and also the need to drag the monitor and cables into the hallway for every competition. Cards for the Men's competitions will then be posted through the letter box in the Committee office door. The new system is installed and commissioned and will be used this Sunday, subject to the weather. 21st century ... here we come.

Day 3 - Don't forget the Club AGM this Sunday

I had to go to the Club today to put up the final notices for the Club AGM on Sunday night, 1st February 2009. There are no Resolutions on the agenda, but there is an election for the very important position of Green's Chairman. The Committee often receive criticism from the members about the course and this appointment is fundamental in ensuring that the members are suitably represented in our discussions with Management and the Head Greenkeeper. So please don't forget to attend in the Club house starting at 7.30pm. There are two candidates for Greens Chairman, Ronnie Dixon and Leon Masterman.

..... Please show your support to the volunteers you have elected to represent the members by turning up to vote.

PS ... I was a bit surprised to see that some kind soul had removed the 2008 minutes from the notice board, thanks!!! another 10 minutes of my life wasted printing off another copy.

Day 2 and Secretarial duties

Today was back to the routine of Club Secretary duties. And the priority job of the day was to get the Parklands Open posters in the post. Neil Watson has produced some very professional posters for us this year ... thanks Neil ... hope they catch the eye and we have lots of entries. 60 envelopes to be addressed, letters written and posters enclosed ... and the rest is down to the Royal Mail.

On the evening, Brian King and I attended the Annual General Council Meeting of the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs at the Northumberland Golf Club. There were no major changes proposed and the Seniors County Card costs remained unchanged at £10 and £10 per round.

Day 1 of the adventure

My time has come and my term of office as Captain at Parklands commenced today at the Men's AGM, where Captain Paul Fairley handed over the reins and I in turn announced the Vice Captain for 2009 as Brian King. My sincere thanks go to Paul Fairley for his guiding hand throughout my year as his apprentice. It's an easy task to learn the ropes from such a nice guy. Good luck in you year as Immediate Past Captain Paul.
There is no more deserving a person for the choice of Brian King as Vice Captain. It is reward and recognition for the extraordinary contribution to the running of the Men's Section over the last 5 years or more.
In addition, Barry Guy was re-elected for a period of 3 years along with 3 new members of the Committee, Brian Rutherford, Ronnie Dixon and David York. Welcome and we look forward to your contribution and input during 2009 and beyond.
Many thanks to all the members who attended the meeting.

I'm back

There have been no postings this year so far because we started the new year in the sunshine ... eating, cruising and playing golf in the Caribbean ... well someone has to do it ... why not me?
But it's back to reality and playing golf wearing multiple layers and sniffing with winter colds. I played in the last round of the Winter Eclectic on Sunday ... and did not manage to cover myself in glory .... I did manage to separate the head and the shaft of the driver ... Hopefully Craig in the shop will come to my assistance with a speedy repair.

The competition was won by Keith Simpson with a very good round of 83 - 21 = 62 well done.
