Tommy Watson

You may be aware that Tommy Watson took ill through the week and I am using the blog as a method of updating the members on his welfare. His wife, Andre, is overwhelmed by telephone calls from members of the golf club asking about his condition and expressing their concern, but she cannot reply to every call and she has asked me to keep everyone up to date via the blog.
Tommy was found unconscious at his place of work on Wednesday and it would appear that he had been unconscious for around 5 hours. He was taken to the General Hospital where he was diagnosed with an embolism (bleeding in the skull/brain) and was placed in a drug induced coma for his comfort in Intensive Care. He was operated upon on Friday to stop the bleeding and remove the pressure on the brain. The operation went well and Tommy is now awake and making some conversation. Our thoughts are with Tommy and Andre during this trying period and we send them our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Parklands Open Competitions 2010

Back from holiday and back to the routine of Club Secretary duties. And the priority job of the week was to get the Parklands Open posters in the post. Neil Watson has produced some very professional posters for us again this year ... thanks Neil ... hope they catch the eye and we have lots of entries. 30 envelopes to be addressed and posters enclosed ... and the rest is down to the Royal Mail. (Click on the attached photo to enlarge).

Memory Lane

I received this photo from Pat Mattinson who was walking the course on New Year's Day and I thought I would publish it to remind our members what the course looks like and to assure them that it is still there, though hidden under the blanket of snow. This is the 18th tee box, which was to be reconstructed .... soon we hope. The Clubhouse is so quiet during this period of enforced abstinence ... but fingers crossed for a thaw soon.

Happy New Year 2010

It's been a tough end to 2009, with very little golf played at Parklands.
However, here's wishing a Happy New Year to all of our readers and Golf Club Members. I hope the New Year will treat you well and keep you healthy and I hope that your golf brings you lots of fun, friendship and you achieve your golfing goals.

Goodbye Anthony and good luck

We say farewell this weekend to one of our Parklands PGA professionals, Anthony Miley who is leaving for pastures new. Anthony has been our 'Junior Coach' as part of the Junior Academy helping to deliver the Passport to Golf to many youngsters across the area. Apparently Anthony has secured a role as a PGA professional in Qatar ... slightly warmer than Parklands at the moment. Nikki Hunter will now take on many of his teaching responsibilities. Good luck on your travels Anthony and good luck.

Who's been dreaming of a white Christmas?

So after the rain earlier in the week ... now its the snow that's closed the golf course. Today, Saturday, was the Ladies Bring and Win competition where the players bring their own prizes, they get swapped and Santa hands them out .... all in an atmosphere of festive cheer accompanied by a touch of alcohol with the occasional mince pie. There was no golf competition, the course being closed, but Santa (in the guise of Colin Davison) managed to land his sleigh in the car park (luckily it had not been salted and it was nice and snowy and slippy). Happy Christmas Ladies.
